Capel Rugs has become American’s oldest and largest importer and manufacturer of
area rugs today. Nearly one century later, Capel Rugs still conducts their very
own dyeing, spinning, braiding and sewing in the original factory acquired by the
company in 1936. Throughout the years, Capel’s reputation for quality spread. In
1978, the company’s Old Homestead braided rug was inducted into the World Floor
Covering Association Hall of Fame. Aside from Capel’s ever-popular braided rugs,
the company also focuses on purchasing high-quality hand tufted and hand knotted
rugs at outstanding values from both India and China. Capel’s legacy will forever

The Making of a Capel Original Braid
Every braid begins with the spinning of yarns. From wool to chenille, Capel uses
the finest quality material in every rug.
The yarns are dyed in-house in a rainbow of vibrant colors.
After they dry, the colored yarns are woven into braids in Capel's Troy, N.C. factory.
The braids are hand sewn together to form almost any shape imaginable, from oval
and rectangular rugs to customer size runners and chair pads.
Every Capel Braid is thoroughly inspected for quality and consistency.
After they’ve been inspected, each braided rug is shipped from Capel's factory to
stores all over the world.
Made in Capel's Troy, N.C., factory since 1917, Capel braided rugs are true American
