HOMESTEAD INSTALLATION
General Rules for Installation of NobleHouse Hardwood Flooring
  • Expansion space must be allowed at all vertical obstructions, including walls, thresholds, pipes, cabinetry or where flooring may meet stone, ceramic, or any flooring that will be level with the finished hardwood. Expansion space must be allowed regardless of season during which installation is taking place.
  • Homestead 3/4" solid strip flooring should always have a minimum of 1/2" expansion at all edges.
  • Homestead may be installed above, on or below grade.
  • Grade level indicates the height of the subfloor in relationship to the soil level at the exterior of the structure.
NOTE: Proper drainage is defined as grading that sheds water at least 6' from the structure.
NAIL DOWN
Homestead can be nailed to any structurally sound wooden subfloor, on or above grade only. If installing over a crawlspace or an unheated basement, a vapor barrier (minimum 4 mil.) must be installed. After the barrier is installed, nail the flooring according to the recommendations of the nailing machine manufacturer. Manual or air driven nails or staples may be used. Minimum length of fastener should be 1 1/2".
DIRECT GLUE DOWN
All NobleHouse products except GrandTree can be installed using direct glue methods. However, the proper, recommended adhesives will vary according to the product being installed, the grade level of the jobsite and the subfloor conditions. Use only recommended adhesive types for glue down installation. Always use the proper trowel. Always read and follow all recommendations of the adhesive manufacturer.
DIRECT GLUE METHOD
  • Homestead solid Strip flooring may be glued directly to any structurally sound subfloor, on any grade level. Use only NobleHouse approved adhesives, such as NobleHouseAW Adhesive or NobleHouse SW Adhesive. Read and follow adhesive manufacturer's label instructions. Allow expansion space of 1/2" at all vertical obstructions.
SUBFLOORS
  • Before installation, all subfloors should be: structurally sound, dry, clean and flat. Wood subfloors should be inspected to assure that subflooring material, both solid planks and plywood, is properly attached to the joists or other framing structure. Underlayment should always be fastened to the structure of the subfloor, using adhesive and nails or staples. If there are weak spots or squeaks, they should be corrected before installation begins.
  • Concrete subfloors should be steel-reinforced slabs construction, smooth finished and fully cured, regardless of grade level.
  • All subfloors must be dry before installation.
    • Wood: See your sales person for details.
    • Concrete: See your sales person for details.
  • All subfloors must be clean. If new construction, all construction debris should be removed, including drywall, texture and paint. Floors should then be broom clean. If installing direct glue flooring material, you must follow adhesive manufacturer's recommendations for removing contamination from the floor before proceeding with the installation.
  • If installing over existing flooring, the subfloor must be free of all contaminates such as wax or oils before using any direct glue methods. Read and follow adhesive manufacturer's recommendations for cleaning before installing new flooring.
  • All subfloors must be flat to within 3/16" in any 10-foot span. Use a string or a straight edge to check for high or low areas in the subfloor. Hight spots or ridges can be sanded or ground, and low areas can be leveled using accepted cement-based products.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
All NobleHouse Hardwood and Laminate Floors
  • All floors should be kept free of dust and grit. Use a broom, untreated dust mop or canister vacuum (without powerhead) to remove dust and grit. Clean floors with any approved hardwood floor cleaner. Read and follow manufacturer's instructions for cleaning. Use only cleaners that are specifically formulated for cleaning hardwood floors.
  • Do not flood floors. Do not use abrasive cleaning pads.
  • For difficult cleaning chores, use a small amount of mineral spirits on a clean cloth. Follow with wood flooring cleaner
SPECIFIC INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOMESTEAD
NobleHouse strip and planks may be installed using any of three methods:
Clip, Glue, Nail Down
General Information
Allow 24-72 hours for product to acclimate. Heat or air conditioning should be operating. Cartons should be open during acclimation. Always allow 1/2" expansion space at all vertical obstructions.
CLIP INSTALLATION
The Clip method is a "floating" system of installation. Use NobleHouse sound step underlayment over the subfloor. You are now ready to begin installation. Remember to leave 1/2" expansion space at all vertical obstructions.
  • You will need approximately 3 clips per square foot of flooring.
  • Cut flooring pieces on ends should be no less than 12" in length. Assemble the first three rows across the room before proceeding with the installation of the rest of the room.
  • Hammer the barbed end of the clip into the groove on the bottom of the first board, no more than 24" apart and no more than 4" from the ends of each plank.
  • To assure quality of installation, glue all end joints with NobleHouse T&G adhesive throughout the installation.
NOTE: This is a "floating" installation, and individual pieces of flooring will expand and contract with the seasons. It is normal to have some occasional noise.
DIRECT GLUE METHOD
Homestead solid Strip flooring may be glued directly to any structurally sound subfloor, on any grade level. Use only NobleHouse approved adhesives, such as NobleHouse AW Adhesive or NobleHouse SW Adhesive. Read and follow adhesive manufacturer's label instructions. Allow expansion space of 1/2" at all vertical obstructions.
NAIL DOWN METHOD
Be sure to use a nailer that is recommended for use with the thickness of the solid strip and planks of this type. A plastic vapor barrier should be installed over the wood subfloor before installation. Follow nailer manufacturer installation recommendations for nail spacing and placement.
Homestead can be nailed to any structurally sound wooden substrate, on any grade level. If installing over a crawl space or an unheated basement, a vapor barrier, (minimum 4 mil.) must be installed. After the barrier is installed, nail the flooring according to the recommendations of the nailing machine manufacturer. Manual or air driven nails or staples may be used. Minimum length of fastener must be 1 1/2", spaced approximately 6" apart, and within 3" of each end.
