INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR KRONOTEX CLIC GLUELESS LAMINATE FLOORING

With Kronotex Clic laminate flooring, you have purchased a product that is installed without glue, quickly and problem-free.  The specially developed tongue and groove joint makes it possible to snap the individual panels together with a single "click".  Once joined, the panels form a fixed unit.  All edges are protected against the absorption of moisture by an environmentally friendly hydrophobic agent.  But the snap-in connections are as easily separated as they are installed, whenever you wish to re-install the floor in another location or introduce further individual panels with a different decoration or different design elements into your floor.  You can load or walk upon the finished section immediately.  When you install Kronotex Clic in a furnished apartment, the furniture must simply be moved away from the working area, not from the room.  After installing the first rows, everything can immediately be placed back upon the finished portion.

IMPORTANT  Do not open immediately!  Before opening the packaging, acclimatize Kronotex Clic panels for 48 hours by laying each box horizontally and individually in the center of the room, in which they are to be installed.  Opened packages should be installed on the same day as opened.  Panels should always be carefully examined for faults, straightness and color.  Complaints cannot be accepted once the panels have been installed.

Tools/Accessories

For the proper installation of Kronotex Clic, you need only the following:
  • 6-mil. (0.2mm) polyethylene film used for a moisture barrier
  • Moisture-proof self-adhesive tape
  • A sound and thermal insulating underlayment
  • Spacers, tapping block, pull bar
  • A fine toothed saw (electric jigsaw or circular saw)
  • Pencil
  • Safety glasses
  • NIOSH-designated dust mask
  • Level
  • Measuring tape
  • Hammer
***Additional tools for the installation in full baths and other rooms where water may be present:  laminate flooring glue, 100% mildew-resistant silicone sealant.

Checklist

Kronotex Clic may be installed upon the following existing floors:
  • Wood, linoleum, vinyl tile and vinyl sheets (elastic flooring must be firmly fastened to its base), needle felt and ceramics
  • Cement floors (maximum residual moisture 2.0 CM %) (Magnesium moisture test)
With a Calcium Chloride test, the maximum acceptable reading is 5.0 lbs/ 24 hours/ 1000 sq. ft.  Kronotex Clic should only be installed over cement floors with moisture protection/vapor barrier.
  • Anhydrite and anhydrite flow screed (maximum residual moisture 0.3 CM %)
Attention:  It is important to establish a record of the residual moisture for the location of installation, as claims for consequential damage cannot be accepted by the manufacturer without such a report.

The following floors are unsuitable for Kronotex Clic:
  • Long-loop, thick carpet floors (must be removed first)
  • Stone-wood flooring, magnesite flooring (excessive residual moisture)
  • See SPECIAL RULES for the installation in full bathrooms or in other rooms exposed to moisture
Basic Rules for Installation
  • Kronotex Clic must be installed only on surfaces, which are absolutely level, clean and firm.  Unlevel areas must first be leveled, i.e. areas with low spots more than 3/16" must be filled in with a portland cement-based leveling compound and any ridges must be removed.
  • For moisture protection a 6-mil (0.2mm) polyethylene film should be used under the panels as a base.  This is laid edge to edge, running in the same direction as the panels.  Overlap the edges of the film by at least 8 inches.  The junction seams must be joined with a moisture-proof self-adhesive tape.  Ensure that the moisture barrier extends 2 inches up the perimeter wall and then cover with the moldings.
  • The underlayment pad, foam or foil should completely be laid on top of the moisture barrier, and cover the floor space where Kronotex Clic is to be installed.  The seams of the underlayment should be taped.
  • A floor temperature of at least 60°F and a room temperature of at least 65°F, with a relative humidity of 50% - 70% is required for installation.
  • For appearance reasons, the panels should always be installed running toward (or away from) the main source of light.
  • Expansion joints:  As it is a natural material, wood "works", so that the panels must be allowed to expand and contract in all directions.  For this reason, it is required to provide expansion joints of at least 5/16 inches at the walls, conduits, thresholds, etc., secured by means of the spacers, which are to be removed following complete installation.
  • We recommend removing the tongues of the panels in the areas of the expansion joints, to ensure adequate conditions for the required movement.
  • Moldings must be fastened only at the wall (after installing the floor).  They must never be fastened to the floor.
  • In rooms, which measure more than 40 ft. long (direction of plank length) and/or more than 25 ft. wide (direction of plank width), an additional expansion joint must be inserted.  This also applies to door openings, the area between adjoining rooms and corridor corners.  We recommend that you remove the tongues of the panels in the places where you use expansion joint sections in order to guarantee sufficient movement.
  • When installing around fixed objects, e.g. heating pipes, leave a 5/16" expansion gap on each side of the object (i.e. diameter of the heating pipe plus 5/8 inches).  Saw the panel at an angle of 90° to the holes and glue the piece that has been cut off, put it behind the heating pipe and press it firmly to the rest of the panel.
  • If a doorframe has to be shortened, lay a panel (decorative surface down) against the frame.  Mark the depth of the panel on the frame, then trim using the handsaw.  Place the panel under the door with decorative side up.
Special Rules

Special rules for installation in full bathrooms or other rooms where water may be present:
  • If installing Kronotex Clic in areas where water may be present, glue the flooring planks with Laminate Flooring moisture resistant glue (apply a continuous bead of glue on top of the tongue).
  • If installing Kronotex Clic in a basement or another damp area, a moisture test is recommended.
  • Never install Kronotex Clic over a subfloor with a drain or pump.
  • The entire perimeter expansion space and all other expansion spaces in the bathroom, including those around the toilet drain collar, must be filled with 100% mildew-resistant silicone sealant.
  • Specific expansion spaces in the kitchen and other areas, where there is a potential for moisture or water leaks must also be filled with sealant (i.e. in front of sinks, dishwashers, refrigerators, around the icemaker line, exterior doorways, sliding glass doors, laundry rooms, etc.)
A.  Laying the First Row
  1. First lay out the moisture barrier and underlayment correctly. Position the first row of panels and slide the short ends together. It does not matter if you start in the middle of the room or along one wall, nor if you lay from left to right or right to left. Measure the width of the last row of panels beforehand since this should not be narrower than 2 inches. If it is, the first row of panels may have to be trimmed accordingly. You should ideally start laying along one wall. Ensure a gap between the row of panels and the wall of 5/16 inches using the spacers. Cut off the tongues on the long and short sides of the panels facing the wall with a saw.
  2. In order to connect the short ends of the planks lay a new plank on the floor in such a way that the front corner touches the corner of the already laid plank. Join tongue and groove together by sliding the new panel along the short end of the plank already on the floor until it hits the panels of the previous laid row. To install the long side of the panel use an approved knocking block and tap the plank gently into place. Start tapping near the assembled end joint and while gently tapping move in several steps towards the other corner of the plank until both planks fit tightly together. Never start tapping in the middle of the plank.
  3. The panels must follow the line of the wall. If the wall is not straight, its contour should be traced on the first row of floor panels. Cut the panels to size according to the markings.
  4. Align the row exactly (check with a plumb line), slide the tongue into the groove and check that the row is straight.
B.  Laying the Following Rows
  1. Start with the second row using half a panel or a leftover piece (at least 15 inches). Place the panel flat on the moisture barrier and using the knocking block, tap its long side into the previously laid row of panels. Make sure that the gap between this first row of panels and the wall is maintained.
  2. To join the short sides, lay a further panel flat on the moisture barrier so that the front corner of the new panel touches the rear corner of the previously laid panel. Lay the tongue in the groove and slide the panel along its short side. Then using the knocking block, tap along its long side until it clicks into the previously laid row of panels. The panel is guided by the tongue and groove on the short side.
  3. Continue in this manner with each row of panels until the room is completely covered – always join the tongue and groove on the short side first.
  4. In an ideal case each row is offset by 15 inches to the previous row to achieve a greater stability of the overall area.
C.  Laying the Last Row

Measure the exact width of the last row. For this purpose, lay a panel on the previous row of panels. Then lay a second panel with the tongue facing the wall on the panel to be measured and use this as a ruler. And remember the gap between the panel and wall. Cut the panel according to the marking and fit in place.

We reserve the right to make technical changes to improve the quality of the product.

After Laying

Kronotex Clic is a hygienic laminate floor, which can be simply and easily cleaned with a hair broom or a vacuum cleaner. Adherent soiling can be removed with the usual cleansing agents or a laminate cleaner or acetone respectively, but do not use wax or polish. In special areas particularly prone to soiling, use a dirt-collecting mat. Minor damage can be repaired by means of a Repair Kit. Claims for damages are excluded in case of the use of wrong cleaning methods. In order to maintain the quality of your laminate floor, you should provide for felt sliding devices and soft chair castors made of rubber for the feet of your furniture.
